Short answers to common questions about Quap.
General
Does Quap upload my files?
No. Documents are processed on your computer. See Privacy and data.
Do I need an account?
No. Free works without one, and a Pro key is activated without an account.
Which systems are supported?
Quap runs on macOS 10.15 or later (Apple Silicon and Intel) and on 64-bit Windows 10 or later. The built-in local AI model currently needs an Apple Silicon Mac with 8 GB of memory or more.
Is there a Windows version?
Yes. Download the installer from the Download page; see Install Quap.
Files
What is the largest file Quap can open?
On Free, documents under 4 MiB. With Pro there is no fixed limit; even multi-gigabyte files open in seconds. See Large files.
My JSON has comments and trailing commas. Can Quap read it?
Yes. The toolbar offers Clean and format, which removes comments, trailing commas, a BOM and broken escaping, then formats. See Format and clean.
Can I open Excel files?
Yes. Open an .xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, .xlsb or .ods file, pick a sheet, and it opens as CSV. Tables export back to XLSX.
I closed Quap without saving. Is my work lost?
No. Quap keeps recovery copies of open tabs and restores them on the next launch.
AI assistant
Do I need an AI subscription?
No. Use your own API key for Anthropic, OpenAI or Gemini, your own OpenAI-compatible server, or the free built-in local model. Suggestion bubbles marked ⚡ work without any model.
Does the AI see my data?
Cloud models see your instruction and, only if you allow it, the key names — never the values. The local model runs on your computer. See How the AI assistant works.
The AI picked the wrong field. What now?
Name the field exactly as it appears ("the customer.email field"), turn on Send key names (schema) so the model knows your keys, or try a cloud model for long instructions. Nothing changes until you click Apply.
Why did the AI stop after 3 steps?
The Free plan runs the first 3 steps of each plan. Pro runs them all. You can also split the job into several instructions.
Pro and licensing
Is Pro a subscription?
No. A Pro license is perpetual.
On how many computers can I use Pro?
Three at the same time. Deactivate in Settings → License frees a device.
I got a new computer.
Deactivate the key on the old computer in Settings → License, then activate it on the new one.
Developers
Can I use Quap from Cursor or Claude Desktop?
Yes — turn on MCP in the title bar and add the copied config to your client. See quap-mcp.
