Tabs and sidebar
Work with many documents at once — tabs, pinning, the sidebar, layouts and windows.
Tabs
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| New tab | ⌘T or File → New File |
| Close tab | ⌘W, the × on the tab, or a middle click |
| Next / previous tab | ⌘Tab / ⌘⇧Tab |
| Go to tab 1–9 | ⌘1 … ⌘9 |
| Pin a tab | Right-click the tab → Pin |
| Compare / diff with the active tab | Right-click another tab → Compare with active or Diff with active |
Pinned tabs stay at the front. When tabs do not fit, scroll arrows appear at both ends with the number of hidden tabs, and hidden tabs collect in a stack — click it to reveal them.
Closing a tab with unsaved changes asks whether to Save, Don't Save or Cancel. With several unsaved tabs you decide for all of them at once.
Left sidebar
Prefer a list? Click the document list toggle in the title bar, or choose Settings → Document list → Left sidebar. The sidebar splits Pinned and Other documents, and hovering a document shows a preview of its first lines.
Layout
Settings → Editor / preview layout puts the editor on the left, right, top or bottom. Drag the divider between editor and preview to resize; hide the preview from its toolbar when you want the full width for editing.
Windows
File → New Window opens a second window — handy for two monitors. File → Close Window closes it.
Recently opened
File → Open Recent lists your recent files; Clear Recently Opened empties the list. Files that no longer exist are removed when you click them.
